Cover was glad to have the opportunity to work with the Yaqan Nuʔkiy (Lower Kootenay Band) on concept design work and Feasibility Study for a future Fitness Centre for the Band. With the goal of continuing to advance health and wellness within the community, a functional program and several concept designs for the proposed site were developed with the client group. The site, located next to the community Administration and Health Centre, has a significant slope and beautiful views out into the valley. The program includes administration, change rooms, cardio equipment, free weights, and a dance and yoga space, all on a relatively small footprint. The proposed design looks for efficiencies and overlap within this program, while also aiming to create spaces that are inviting and approachable, while also showcasing the surrounding landscape and views.
