urban systems office expansion

The Urban Systems Office Expansion adds to their existing offices with a breakout space for employees to recharge and connect.
Located in one of Nelson’s many historic red brick buildings, the Urban System offices take advantage of open plan design to maximize the useable space and to encourage office community and collaboration. In the new breakout space, special attention was paid to creating a generous and engaging shared kitchen along with a functional entry to store bikes and coats. The focal point of the expansion was designed around a large existing table used for in-house meetings and discussions. Tucked away in the corner are two acoustic rated booths which can be booked out by staff for meetings or by those just wanting a change of scenery. Environmental considerations included the refurbishment of existing building elements such as the exposed brick wall, timber floors and wood columns. One of the challenges of the existing space was the minimal windows and natural light. In response, a light material palette, thoughtful interior lighting design, and a custom feature mirror (designed to reflect in more natural light), help to brighten the space.
