The Centre 64 Stage Feasibility Study explored a variety of design forms that would offer a flexible stage and performance space for outdoor entertainment and events.

The designs were shaped to enhance sound projection for the audience and reduce sound reverberation for the performers. The tapered cone-like shapes ensure the audience has an unobstructed view of the performers from both wings of the stage. Ventilation and sun protection were key considerations for the summer months and were addressed in later design iterations through the timber slat inserts in the exterior walls and cantilevered roof. A flat rear wall and white interior finish allowed for the incorporation of projectors to expand the Stage’s use and creative possibilities during performances. To open the stage to all performers, a ramp provides access to the rear of the stage and back-of-house.
