Castlegar, BCTraditional Homelands: Ktunaxa Nation, Sinixt Nation, and Syilx Peoples

The Castlegar Chamber of Commerce (CCOC) building is a project full of innovation and is one of the first institutional buildings in Canada to combine the structural technology of Mass Timber and the energy efficiency of Passive House.

Cover collaborated with local CLT and timber manufacturer, Kalesnikoff, to design the mixed-use building that utilizes high-efficiency and ecologically responsible materials. This facility includes offices, a rentable boardroom space, a Visitor Information Center that will house a historical gallery, and a business incubator which provides additional, rentable office space for new businesses.

The CCOC building achieved Passive House Certification, the framework for which offers from 80% to 100% reduction in energy, and even Net Positive, for a construction premium as low as 5% of the construction costs.

Cover was the architectural consultant through design and tender, with Stand Architectural for construction administration services.
