selkirk silver king student housing

Nelson, BCTraditional Homelands: Ktunaxa, Syilx, and Sinixt Peoples

This Student Housing building on Selkirk College’s Silver King campus provides much needed housing, with 36 beds, including family friendly and accessible units.

This was an exciting project for the Cover team, the innovative design combined both prefabricated modular units and mass timber to facilitate a cost-effective and accelerated construction process. The project achieved BC Energy Step Code 4 and Zero Carbon Step Code EL-4, and shadows LEED Gold.

The project also meets an exceptional level of accessibility, well beyond building code minimums, and provides meaningful access for both students and staff. The college committed from the start of the project to meet the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification recommendations and we were thrilled to be able to help them make it a reality.

The building includes playful wayfinding and signage design, and Cover collaborated with local photographers Cierra & Mike Media to bring Kootenay landscapes into the communal spaces.
