Boundary RegionTraditional Homelands: Ktunaxa, Syilx, and Sinixt Peoples
This transition house for women, supported by BC Housing and operated by a local non-profit, serves as a vital resource for individuals seeking support. The facility provides temporary accommodation, essential services, referrals, and guidance to help residents plan their next steps.
Designed with sustainability in mind, the project achieved Step Code 4, offering approximately 30% better energy performance than the baseline requirements of the BC Building Code at the time of completion. The mixed-use residential and office building includes 20 thoughtfully designed bedrooms, a spacious shared kitchen, and inviting communal living areas, all aimed at cultivating a sense of community and belonging.
The horseshoe layout of the building creates a central courtyard, promoting outdoor interactions and a safe space for residents to connect. Beyond its residential components, the facility features dedicated service spaces that support residents and their families. This Transition House embodies a thoughtful architectural approach to community support and sustainability, creating a functional environment that enhances the quality of life for its occupants.
