Nakusp BCTraditional Homelands: Ktunaxa, Syilx, Sinixt, and Secwépemc Peoples
The Bell Passive House is a unique Triplex that demonstrates sustainable design and community living. Located in Downtown Nakusp along the waterfront, this project prioritized both sustainability and accessibility, supporting aging in place while fostering neighbourhood interaction.
The building features an impressive outer structure with a triple-stud frame and a web truss roof, both filled with high R-value insulation for enhanced energy efficiency. Its triple-pane windows are metal-clad with a wooden interior, offering durability and a warm atmosphere indoors. Electric heating combined with advanced ventilation solutions ensure comfort and fresh air circulation, while also reducing heating demand.
Thoughtfully designed with accessibility in mind, the Bell Passive House ensures that everyone can enjoy its spaces comfortably. Key elements on the main floor include an open floor plan that facilitates easy movement throughout the living areas and roll-in showers that make the bathrooms safe and accessible for individuals with mobility challenges. These features, among others, create an inclusive environment that promotes independence and enhances the quality of life for residents.
This project not only sets a high standard for sustainable architecture but also creates comfortable and accessible spaces that invite community connection.
