The New Denver Stage is the performance centre for the larger Centennial Park revitalization.
The Stage is designed to be utilized throughout the year by the community for events of all sizes, like the Garlic Festival, which happens annually. One of the big drivers of the stage design was its location; the open form ensures that the beautiful Slocan Lake and mountains beyond are unobstructed, enhancing the audience experience and the performance. A berm was built up to raise the stage and increase its presence, while also linking it to the greater park masterplan. Feature screens on the stage give protection from the elements and allow backstage presence to remain unnoticed by the audience. A large curtain has also been integrated to screen backstage and separate the stage if 2 separate community events need to take place under the shelter. The locally sourced mass timber construction cut down on the project’s environmental footprint and ties the stage into its rural setting. This project was a collaboration with the Village of New Denver and a passion project for all involved to create something integral and valuable to the community.
